Your opening move should be to marry the woman that’ll give you the strongest alliance. This cost me a few wars I wouldn’t have had to fought otherwise. For example, during my playthrough, the Duke of Ulster’s heir was the Duke of Mercia which means I would lose control of that Duchy after his death. This’ll prevent awkward situations that make you lose land from occurring. It’ll take around 55-56 years to research, but you want to get to High Crown Authority as soon as possible. A big goal for you should be to focus on the Royal Prerogative cultural innovation right off the bat.
You’ll also want to quickly switch over to Limited Crown Authority in the Realm menu. So, until you establish the Kingdom of Ireland, only grant Earldoms or below. If you grant a Duchy to a vassal, it will put them on the same level as you, and they’ll become independent. As long as you don’t form a second kingdom (something that is beyond the purview of this guide), you will still control the Irish throne, even if Duchies and Counties are split among heirs.Ī key thing to remember is that you want to be stingy with your titles early on. If Murchad can become High King of Ireland before he dies, his heir will inherit that title, and any other titles inherited by his siblings will remain vassals instead of becoming independent. This splits your Titles equally amongst your children after your death. One of the biggest obstacles during this playthrough is going to be that you’re stuck with Confederate Partition for a while. You’ll want to establish the title of King of Ireland as early as possible. Instead, you’ll want to quickly meet the requirements needed to establish the title and rely on diplomacy and scheming to conquer the rest over time.
Unfortunately, it just takes too long to fabricate claims and conquer territory. Poor Murchad may become King of Ireland, but he almost certainly won’t live long enough to unite the isle.
The safest route to reestablish the Kingdom of Ireland is to play the long con. This sets you up as Duke of Neustria, 2 counties, 2 vassals, awesome traits, a diplomatic wife of good stock, and you can establish the norman culture right out of the gate. This territory will remain your capital and base of operations throughout this scenario, so familiarize yourself with it. Right-click on the King, and “swear fealty” will be on the very bottom of the window that opens. Lastly, it would help if you used the regular game options to “swear fealty” to King Charles the bald. This makes you Duke and gives you 2 vassals. I then take the title of Duke of Neustria from the current Duke, who can be found in the county of Maine.
Right-click on the King of France, and use the mod menu to “Force marriage.” I choose Gisele, then edit her congenital traits to pretty and intelligent so that Rollo’s chad traits are more likely to be passed down. Second, we now need to fix his political situation. This gives him excellent traits to start his dynasty, and gives you the game decided to make your dynasty have “strong blood,” which makes it more likely to inherit good traits, and gives Rollo the nickname ‘Blood Father.’ From here, I also give him 300 gold and 300 piety to match his prestige by using the “edit currency menu,” which can be accessed by right-clicking on Rollo. I personally only give him congenital traits of intelligent, herculean, handsome, and giant. From here, you can edit what you want about him. Change his religion using the mod, to Catholicism. Change how he looks in the barbershop to look French or a Norse heathen it’s up to you. If you want to play the game this way and die, that is up to you stop the guide here, but I will continue to set up Rollo historically-ish.įirst things first, let’s edit Rollo with the necessary changes. But he is currently an individual count, with 2 counties, surrounded by Catholics, no allies, no heirs.
